Mi è stato segnalato un sito dove alcuni pescatori, persone assolutamente affidabili, che conosco personalmente, avevano pescato dalle reti dei bidoni. Ho cercato in tutti i modi di capire quale fosse il luogo preciso. Mi sono state date delle coordinate, che ho riportato al consulente, per verificare il sito, con l’avvertenza che ci poteva comunque essere un margine di errore di 500 metri. Ho instaurato una trattativa con questa ditta, cercando di risparmiare dei soldi, e con ventimila euro hanno svolto questo lavoro; hanno utilizzato una nave con un sonar a scansione. Sul sito dove i pescatori avevano pescato i bidoni hanno rilevato un corpo estraneo della lunghezza di 126 metri. Questo sonar funziona come una sorta di risonanza magnetica, che ha rilevato un corpo lungo 126 metri; i consulenti hanno escluso che si possa trattare di un oggetto naturale, come una roccia, ma dovrebbe trattarsi di un corpo solido e non liquido. Non si spiegano cosa sia.

A fronte di questo accertamento ho cominciato a svolgere attività informali. In una prima fase nessuno diceva nulla. Si diceva che a 30 metri dalla spiaggia di Cetraro c’era una nave, che si vedeva dalla superficie quando il mare era calmo, ma il fatto comunque non risulta dagli atti ufficiali. La distanza è troppo breve, si tratta di quattro miglia dalla costa. L’episodio di cui parla il pentito, di mine da far scoppiare per affondare la nave, sembra incompatibile con la vicinanza alla costa. Nei confronti di questo accertamento non avevo grosse aspettative sotto il profilo dell’ipotesi investigativa. Ho chiesto alla capitaneria di porto se c’erano navi da guerra affondate. La capitaneria mi ha risposto che nel 1989 è affondata una nave, a 15 miglia, verso Scalea, della lunghezza di 20 metri. Non gli risultavano navi da guerra. Abbiamo fatto anche delle ricerche via Internet. Abbiamo chiesto all’ufficio maridrografico di Genova, che però ha dato risposte generiche e non verificabili. Si tratterebbe di un relitto della prima guerra mondiale, affondato nel 1920 (ma la guerra è finita nel 1918) chiamata Federico, atti classificati, ossia coperti da segreto militare. A seguito di esplicita richiesta è stato chiesto perché non risulti. Il problema investigativo che si va ad incastrare con le dichiarazioni del pentito è il fatto che il pentito dice che quella operazione è stata svolta nell’ottobre 1992. Le carte nautiche utilizzate sono aggiornate fino a febbraio 1992, però non riportano questo relitto, che invece viene riportato nel 1993. Le dichiarazioni del pentito quindi andrebbero ad incastrarsi perfettamente con il discorso delle mappe. Dal 1993 le mappe nautiche riportano la nave come relitto non pericoloso con battente d’acqua sconosciuto, il che vuol dire che non sanno cos’è; ma allora come fanno a dire che non è un relitto pericoloso?Ho chiesto il motivo per il quale questa nave non è stata mai riportata nelle mappe nautiche e non mi hanno saputo dare una risposta. Comunque nel 1920 non c’era nessuna guerra. Ho svolto altre attività. Di fronte alla notizia tutti cominciavano a dire la propria opinione. Ho individuato dei pescatori. A distanza da questa nave c’è ne effettivamente una, che si vede a pelo d’acqua, più piccola.
