“I challenge Umberto Veronesi to a public comparison to subdistinguish all that it has asserted in the interview to The Print in March 3. If Veronesi is ready for being the nuclear dross in his bedroom, as it seems that he has declared, it is affar his (even if on the subject it would be an interesting knowledge as her his neighbours think about house), but if the president of the Asn (who is an independent authority) declares that the nuclear plants are studied to last up to cent' ’years, then there opens a serious problem of competence and of reliability of the whole structure that, to my judgement, can only decide raising Veronesi from his task.” Sono l’unico esperto nucleare ad aver fatto obiezione di coscienza dopo l’incidente di Chernobil, mettendo a rischio la mia professionalità e la mia stessa carriera e penso con sgomento al fatto che la sicurezza nucleare venga gestita con le modalità assurde stabilite dal governo: dodici mesi per svolgere il licencing di una centrale nucleare e del deposito nazionale per le scorie, quando il maggiore ente di sicurezza del mondo (la Nrc statunitense) ci impiega non meno di tre anni disponendo di oltre mille tecnici esperti, mentre la nostra Asn ha solo duecento dipendenti assai poco preparati. Che ne sa Veronesi dei problemi che sorgono in fase di certificazione di un progetto nucleare? Di come si valuta un massimo credibile incidente, dei controlli da effettuare in fase di costruzione e di esercizio di un impianto? Di come anche i più sofisticati sistemi e procedure di sicurezza falliscono: a Three Mile Island i malfunzionamenti dei servizi di emergenza furono sei e solo due erano attribuibili al fattore umano. Certo, finché medici come lui si faranno schermo delle statistiche dell’Oms e della Iaea, che sostengono che a Three Mile Island non è morto nessuno e che a Chernobil i morti sono poche migliaia, allora i cittadini dovranno veramente temere per la loro sicurezza. Ci sono scienziati russi, bielorussi ed ucraini che hanno illustrato nei loro studi le decine di migliaia di morti e centinaia di migliaia di patologie post Chernobil, che vengono costantemente ignorati e boicottati da uomini come Veronesi e dall’omertà che contraddistingue la maggioranza della cosiddetta comunità scientifica (non solo italiana). E poi basta con le falsità che il nucleare ci rende liberi dal petrolio dato che solo il 5 per cento dell’energia elettrica è prodotta con questa fonte mentre la stragrande maggioranza del suo consumo va nei trasporti e nell’industria, e poi è assai probabile che sarà l’uranio ad esaurisrsi prima dei combustibili fossili. Basta con la favola che tutti i problemi del nucleare (dalle scorie ai reattori di quarta generazione saranno risolti) perché sono gli stessi problemi che studiavamo in Enel trenta anni fa prevedendo di risolverli entro il 2000, ed ora che siamo nel 2010 ci dicono che la loro soluzione è spostata di altri trenta anni! Se Veronesi è disposto a tenersi le scorie nucleari nella sua camera da letto, come pare abbia dichiarato, è affar suo (anche se in proposito sarebbe interessante sapere come la pensano i suoi vicini di casa), ma se il presidente dell’Asn (che è un’autorità indipendente) afferma che le centrali nucleari sono studiate per durare fino a cent’anni, allora si apre un serio problema di competenza e di affidabilità dell’intera struttura che, a mio giudizio, non può che risolversi sollevando Veronesi dal suo incarico.”
